SearchWP Co-Authors Plus Integration is an official SearchWP extension that expands WordPress search capabilities for sites with multiple authors. Developed by the SearchWP team, this integration connects with Automattic's Co-Authors Plus plugin, which allows assigning multiple authors to a single post. Thanks to this extension, all content signed by co-authors is correctly indexed and becomes fully searchable, something that native WordPress search cannot achieve on its own.
This tool is designed for collaborative blogs, digital magazines, news portals, and any website where multiple writers, editors, or external contributors publish content jointly. With it, visitors can search by author name, nickname, biography, or any other data associated with co-authors, and get as results the posts written by that person, instead of being redirected to a user profile or author archive.
The extension automatically indexes key fields such as username, display name, nickname, first name, last name, and biography of each co-author. Additionally, it groups all these fields into a unified custom field called coauthorsplus_any, allowing searches that match any of these data points easily. It also offers support for guest authors, that is, people who do not have a WordPress user account but appear as content signers.
Configuration is simple: after activating the extension, you must rebuild the indexes from the Advanced tab in SearchWP settings. During the process, new custom fields with the coauthorplus_ prefix appear in the attribute selector for each content type, allowing you to fine-tune exactly which author data you want to include in the search and with what relevance weight.
The benefits are clear: readers quickly find all the work of a specific author, editors can easily locate each contributor's content, and the overall site navigation experience is improved. For sites with multiple signers, this integration turns search into a truly useful and comprehensive tool.
