Restrict Past Content is an official add-on for Restrict Content Pro, the powerful membership plugin for WordPress. Its main function is to allow membership sites to control access to content published before each member's registration date. This is especially useful for subscription communities, course platforms, and sites with progressive content, where new members should only access material published from the moment they join.
The add-on compares the publication date of each piece of content with the user's membership start date. If the content was published before the member registered, the restriction message configured in Restrict Content Pro is shown. Configuration is done per membership level, allowing the restriction to be enabled or disabled independently for each subscription plan.
Its standout features include an exception period, which allows administrators to define a number of days during which members can view content published before their registration date. For example, if an exception period of 7 days is set, members will be able to access content published up to one week before joining. It is also possible to exclude specific content from restrictions via a checkbox on the edit screen of each post or page, ensuring that certain materials are always available to all members.
The add-on intelligently handles multiple membership cases: if a user has more than one membership level, the one granting the most access is applied. This ensures a smooth, frictionless experience for members with multiple active plans.
Restrict Past Content is ideal for sites that want to protect historical content, encourage timely consumption of materials, keep the freshness of the information offered, and prevent new subscribers from accessing files that do not correspond to their subscription period. Its native integration with Restrict Content Pro makes it a lightweight, stable, and easy-to-configure solution, without the need for advanced technical knowledge.
